~~Colossians 1:9-14
I'm reading through the book of Colossians this month as a study I'm doing with a dear friend--a college student (formerly my HS student) who's has the most searching spirit. I'd like to say I knew exactly what we'd get from our study of this book, but I didn't. I basically skimmed for a 4-chapter book that could be handled easily in a short month. But God is amazingly wonderful, and He knew exactly what we needed to hear--yes, "we." I may be the mentor in this relationship, but God's word is perfect, perfect for every moment in your life.
So, I was struck, blown away by these verses. Paul tells the people that his prayer is that they:
- would be full of spiritual wisdom and understanding
- would live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way
- bear fruit
- grow in knowledge
- be strengthened by His power
- have endurance and patience
- be joyfully thankful for being qualified to share in the inheritence of the saints
Basically, it's everything I want for my sweet Lindsey, but it's also everything I want for myself, because I know it's exactly what the Lord wants me to have, be and do. More than that, Paul uses that glorious pronoun, "you." It's as timeless and universal as the list.
