A New Season of Old Friends

You can't help it this time of year, spring in the air, everything new and fresh...I should be spring cleaning, shopping for spring clothes, planting something...but I haven't. Instead, I've had some time to revisit some old friends--nothing long lost or anything, just people that the circumstances of life have pulled me away from.

Like last night, I dropped by my friend Jill's house to sign a Stella book for her. There was a time when Jill and I lived one house away from each other. We were pregnant together. Both times. Our boys played together--first toddler tumbling, then T-ball, then baseball...Now our boys are heading to high school next year (unbelievable!) and not only are they moving in different circles, it seems our families are, too. She was a teacher and a counselor, now she's a realtor. I used to teach; I'm a writer. Our sons have completely different interests--hers quite the country-club sportsman--golf and select baseball. My boys are into skate boards and theater.
